Facebook as a pop-up book

With Facebook as a Pop-Up Book, Ying Gao materializes the social network Facebook, giving the clothes structural elements belonging to the pop-up book. Taking her inspiration more from the form and the aesthetics of a book than its literary aspect, Ying Gao reshapes Facebook into a pop-up skirt. Presenting two opposite universes, Facebook as a Pop-Up Book casts a critical and amused look on social networks and on the various interactions they (re)create. From one page to the other, Ying Gao depicts the social network of five of her Facebook friends. Networks transformed into tree-like patterns of which the size and the depth depend on the number of Facebook friends and the nature of their interactions.
